Medical Research>> Objective and general criteria

  OBJECTIVE AND GENERAL CRITERIA

1.1. Objective

The Foundation's aim is to evaluate the medical procedures used as well as to develop and evaluate innovative alternatives in order to promote the use of those that are proven to be effective and to discourage the use of those that are not.

1.2 Criterios

- Interest and validity.

For the Foundation, the interest of a given line of research depends on the social impact of its objectives, but only the rigorous application of scientific methods ensures the validity of its results. For that reason, the Institution believes that allotting resources to a research project that is not absolutely rigorous is tantamount to throwing them away, since the unreliability of its results prevents any practical application.

- Scientific focus.

The Foundation is constantly open to questioning existing knowledge and to studying new approaches to solve any health problem, but it is especially demanding about the scientific rigor of the research needed to evaluate the usefulness of these approaches before recommending them.

For that reason, its science department uses a sequential work system that guarantees the solidity of its efforts and has established various mechanisms of quality control to ensure the rigor of each one of its stages.

- Social Benefit.

Instead of following the health trends of a given moment, the Foundation gives priority to projects treating health problems according to their real social impact, assessed on the basis of two objective criteria: their frequency and the public expense they generate.
